Experts from several different academic disciplines participated in a panel discussion to provide facts and context about the 2014 Ebola Outbreak in West Africa. Several University of Illinois faculty members participated in the panel:
- Dr. Gay Miller (Veterinary Medicine) discussed epidemiology and disease transmission
- Dr. Brenda Wilson (Molecular and Cellular Biology) provided a microbiological perspective of viruses in general and Ebola in particular
- Dr. Palinkas (McKinley Health Center) discussed transmission, symptoms, and treatment of Ebola
- Mabinty Tarawallie, a recent U of I graduate and Sierra Leone national, talked about the social impact of the disease on local communities in Sierra Leone.
