Experts from several different academic disciplines participated in a panel discussion to provide facts and context about the 2014 Ebola Outbreak in West Africa. Several University of Illinois faculty members participated in the panel:
- Dr. Gay Miller (Veterinary Medicine) described the biology of Ebola and how the disease is transmitted
- Dr. Barry Pittendrigh (Integrative Biology) discussed the work that Scientific Animations Without Borders (SAWBO) is doing in West Africa
- Mabinty Tarawallie, a recent U of I graduate and Sierra Leone national, talked about the social impact of the disease on local communities in Sierra Leone.
